Grey Reef Fishing Report July 2022

Grey Reef has been fishing good to great!  Current river flow is 2991 cfs.  Please check daily stream flows before your outing with the bureau of reclamation here: https://www.usbr.gov/gp-bin/arcweb_grar.pl

Water temps have been in the low 60’s.  Please do your part and check water temp before fishing to ensure a proper release to protect our world class tailwater fishery!

The past few weeks anglers have been experiencing great hopper fishing.  Typically by late July, the epic Trico hatches occur by mid morning.  Caddis, Pmd’s, Yellow Sally’s,and midges are also on the menu.

Double dry and hopper/dropper rigs have definitely been the hot ticket!  Fishing standard weighted two fly nymph rigs under an indicator put numbers in the boat. Nymphing off the shelves and drop offs, along with the faster riffle runs is best. Fishing close to the weed beds is also very productive most days.  Fishing big articulated streamers on floating and sink tip lines will also produce savage strikes and target bigger fish.

Laramie Plains Lakes Fishing Report July 2022

Laramie Plains Lakes Fishing Report July 2022

Laramie Plains Lakes Fishing Report July 2022

The Laramie Plains Lakes have been fishing good to great!  All of them have nice rainbow trout in good numbers averaging 16-22 inches! However, if you want to catch brown trout, we recommend you head out to Twin Buttes reservoir and Lake Hattie.  Diamond Lake has solid numbers of Bear River Cutthroat trout as well!

Fishing from shore and wading is common. However, getting out in a float tube or boat is highly recommended. It seems as though the trout get wise to the distance bank anglers cast, so getting out a little farther will often increase your chances with better hookups.

Spin fisherman will do great with spoons, spinners, rapalas, and fly and bubble rigs.  One of our favorites is a gold blade,black/yellow body Panther Martin spinner size 1/8.

Fly fisherman can sight fish to surface rising trout with dry flies on the surface or retrieved just under the surface film.  Two fly nymph rigs fished under an indicator are also very productive.  Fishing big streamers on floating or sinking lines will also produce savage strikes and typically target bigger fish.

Snowy Range Fishing Report July 2022

The Snowy Range high alpine lakes have been a great destination to “beat the heat” the past few weeks.  Fishing has been good to great!  The USGS Forest Service has declared HIGH FIRE DANGER for the area.  Please be responsible with open flames, cooking stoves, and camp fires!

Most of the access areas on the mountain are accessible with snow drifts melting fast.  The most notable are Lake Marie, Mirror Lake, and Sugarloaf Recreation Area.  Going off the beaten path tends to get you away from crowds and produce more sizable catches.  Water and air temps drop drastically when up close to 11,000 feet in elevation up here.  In July/August, anglers are delighted with catching trout all day long on dry flies!

Miracle Mile Wyoming Fishing Report July 2022

Miracle Mile has been fishing good to great!  Please check daily river flows before your outing here.

https://www.usbr.gov/gp-bin/hydromet_dayplt.pl?kowy&q

Flows have been fluctuating between 530-561 cfs.  It is tricky to launch hard side drift boats and maneuver around shoulder to shoulder groups of wade fisherman.  Needless to say, the mile has been extremely crowded!  Water temps have been in the 60’s to near 70 by mid afternoon.  Please do your part and check water temperatures before fishing to ensure proper catch and release to protect our world class tailwater fishery. With low flows, weeds and moss have also been an issue.

Typically in mid July, the epic Trico hatch starts mid morning.  Golden Stones,Caddis,Pmds,Yellow Sally’s, and Hoppers are also on the menu.  Nymph fishing two fly rigs is also very productive in the faster runs and riffles.  Swinging big streamers will also produce explosive strikes and target bigger fish.
