Your Fly Fishing Guide

Nate Mecikalski

Saratoga/Casper Wyoming Fly Fishing Guide and owner of High Plains Fly Fishing

Nate Mecikalski, professional Saratoga/Casper Wyoming Fly Fishing Guide and owner of High Plains Fly Fishing is a Wyoming Native. Since the age of five, he grew up fly fishing and navigating the North Platte, Big Laramie and Encampment rivers. Along with intimate knowledge of Lake Hattie, and all of the other local Laramie Plains Lakes. " For over 20 years, I started out guiding for virtually all of the fly fishing outfitters in Southeast and Central Wyoming. Both in Saratoga, Wyoming to Casper, Wyoming on the North Platte River. It was during these years that I realized that each client had a wide array of expectations from their guide. Through the years, I learned that one client may want a beginners fly fishing instructor, others demand an expert. Some seek a fly fishing partner, while many want a scenic tour guide. In the same way, only a few highly skilled anglers need an oarsman to work the river and simply put them on fish. I learned that in order to give my client the quality fly fishing experience they deserved, that it would never be a “One Size Fits All” kind of thing. Almost all of the fellow "guides" I worked with where seasonal summer help. (mainly high school and college kids) Their heart wasn't in it, like mine was. I learned the common answers to questions from clients concerning flora and fauna. Types of birds and wildlife that were commonly viewed along the river. And, of course, every single aquatic insect that the fish were eating. Fly casting instruction, and knot tying skills, soon became my strong suit. When you book a guided Wyoming fly fishing trip with High Plains Fly Fishing. You can expect to get the most individualistic trip customized completely by you, and what you really want to get out of the experience. Whether it be certain waters you would like to fish. High or low level instruction, etc. I strive to do ALL of my guide trips myself. Although, during peak summer months, when other guide/boats are necessary. I will never take your money and send you out with an inexperienced guide. Guaranteed!"
