About Laramie Plains Lakes

Laramie Plains Lakes

The Plains Lakes consist of Meeboar, Galett, Twin Buttes, Sodergreen and more notably Lake Hattie.  Lake Hattie measures approximately 2500-3000 surface acres.  Therefore, it is the largest of the five plains lakes.  State record trophy trout are caught in Lake Hattie regularly in the 8-12 lb range. Other lakes to include are Alsop, Leazenby (also known as Hundred Springs Reservoir) and Diamond Lake.  These excellent Stillwater fisheries are home to rainbow and brown trout.  In more recent years, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has introduced Grayling, Bear River Cutthroat Trout and Yellowstone Cutthroat.

Hatches

There are many prolific Midge, Calibaetis, and Caddis/Sedge Hatches.  Also, Scuds, Leeches, Damsel flies, Dragon flies, Flying ants and Hoppers are some of the other aquatic insects present. Streamers and a wide array of basic nymphs like Hares Ears and Prince Nymphs produce very well.  Furthermore, several of our custom, hand tied balanced leeches and articulated streamers are designed specifically for these water.  Visit our online fly shop here: https://highplainsflyfishing.com/shop/

Best time to fish

The best times to fish these lakes are in the Spring and again in the Fall. High water temps in the summer can put a damper on the mid day fishing. Therefore, early morning and late evening are the best times of day to fish during these high water temp periods. Our guides can take you out wade fishing or you may enjoy getting out on the water in one of our drift boats.
