Best months to fish The Miracle Mile

The "Mile" fishes great year around due to cold water releases from Kortes dam. For example, March and April Spring fishing is hot for big numbers of rainbow trout. September through November fall fishing is your chance at catching 25-30 inch class trophy brown trout. This is what the mile is known for!

In more recent years, fish populations have declined from approximately 4,000 fish per mile down to approximately 2,500 fish per mile. Because of this, the “Mile” has received somewhat of a bad rap. This decline has reduced angling pressures and has restored it to its former glory. Therefore, in 2018, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department released numbers of up to 10,000 fish per mile! As a result, this is still Big Fish Water. It is common for experienced anglers to have 30-40 fish days consistantly throughout the season on our trips.

Anglers will cover more water and catch more fish by float fishing as well as wade fishing the prime runs.  This is especially productive during peak summer flows. Anglers can usually fish dry flies, nymphs, and streamers all in one day! This is much like the Upper North Platte River near Saratoga, Wyoming.  The primary fish caught on the Miracle Mile are rainbows and browns.  However, the occasional Walleye is possible.

Best Flies to use on The Miracle Mile

Fishing big Pats Rubber legs, Double Bead Peacock Stone fly nymphs, Stimulators, Sofa Pillows, and Hoppers are very productive.  The "Mile" does have a variety of Salmon fly and Golden Stone fly species. The "Salmon fly hatch" can be epic from Memorial Day weekend throughout June.   The flows here frequently change without notice which can be hazardous.  Fishing with an experienced guide is highly recommended. Also, since there are no paved established boat ramps, we know all of the best put ins and take outs to make your float trip the best! We are fully insured, CPR Certified, USDA Forest Service and BLM permitted.
