Fish of Wyoming

Here's a short list of some of the species of fish you can catch on a High Plains Fly Fishing outing.      https://wgfd.wyo.gov/

Brown, brook, and rainbow trout are abundant in all the waters we fish.

Some other fish species you may encounter in Wyoming are:

Golden Trout - Snowy Range Alpine Lakes

Description - Green or olive color with a bright red lateral band with bright yellow on lower side of belly.

Location - Golden Trout can be found in the alpine lakes of Wyoming. Golden trout spawn in spring or early summer.

Hook One - Golden Trout are caught on spinning, bait, and fly fishing gear.

Colorado River Cutthroat Trout - Encampment River

Description - Body is bright golden yellow with a brassy green back. Large spots distributed on the body and caudal fin.

Location - Native to the Green River and Little Snake River. Found in small, clear streams and rivers as well as small to medium size lakes. They are spring spawners.

Hook One - Cutthroats love to take dry flies off the surface! Most conventional trout fishing techniques work when trying to hook one.

Walleye - North Platte River

Description - Large silvery eye as well as large sharp teeth and anterior dorsal fin with spines.

Location - North Platte River and reservoirs. Spring and Fall are the optimal time to catch a Walleye.

Hook One - Trolling with plugs and bait rigged on spinners. Casting lead headed jigs along rocky points.
