The Upper North Platte river near Saratoga, Wyoming has been dropping and clearing. We are now past peak run off. In fact, last weekend the river peaked out at Northgate with 8000 cfs! Fishing conditions are improving by the day. As a result, Salmon flies and Green Drakes are starting to hatch regularly. Consequently, trout are fat, healthy, and happy. Fishing is the best we’ve seen in years!

Hatches are heavier than normal with the big water flows everywhere this year! Caddis. Grey and Green Drakes. Pale Morning Duns. Just to name a few!
We have had productive fishing using big stonefly nymph patterns, such as Pats rubber legs. Double bead peacock stones. As well as, Halfbacks. Big Salmon fly dries such as Amys Ants. Chubby Chernobyls. Sofa Pillow style foam stones are also hot! Hares ear and Prince nymphs also working well on a dropper rig. Articulated streamers are also getting ambushed off the swing. Trout are pushed up against the banks with 2-3 feet water clarity. Our preferred method!
